There are a range of different materials that sex toys are made from and below we have covered each one explaining the good, the bad, and what to expect.
Plastic
There are a great number of sex toys that are made from plastic with majority having a smooth finish.
Most plastic sex toys are in the form of vibrators and because of being quite a hard material, they transfer the vibrations better than the softer more absorbent materials.
As well as vibrators, they are also used commonly for bullets and eggs with the most popular uses being for direct cliteral or external stimulation, although they can be used for internal stimulation. Most plastic vibes are not waterproof so avoid any water contact and only use a damp cloth and a sex toy cleaner solution for cleaning them.
Latex
Latex rubber toys are usually the next cheapest in price. Latex rubber gives a softer finish than plastic and the cost allows for experimenting with different types of toy without costing the earth. Generally latex is not as easy to clean as the others because its quite porous and is damaged by harsh soaps and cleaners, but stick with normal soap and warm water or use a proper sex toy cleaner and you should be fine. Jelly
Jelly vibrators and toys fall about mid range in price and are quite realistic compared to real skin and also feel very similar to silicone toys, however not as robust. Cleaning should only be done with mild soap or a proper sex toy cleaner and warm water. The down side of jelly sex toys is that they can be damaged quite easily with harsh cleaners and should only be used with water based lubricants as any other types will dissolve the jelly. Silicone
Silicone vibrators and sex toys tend to more expensive than the above materials but are a higher quality so last longer and are probably the most popular in terms of feel and comfort. They can be very realistic and benefit from absorbing body heat. Silicone toys are a lot easier to clean that latex or jelly toys, are also hypoallergenic and wont smell. Soap and hot water will clean them easily but will still recommend using a proper sex toy cleaner for total hygiene. It is still advisable to only use water based sexual lubricants as some silicone based lubes can cause degradation of the surface. Cyber-skin
cyber-skin, ero-skin or ultra-skin vibrators are a next generation technology which is designed to be practically life like in feel although it is porous. Glass
